The announcement provides continuity for the Lions' junior development pathway following an impressive 2026 season under McCarthy and Cook.
McCarthy has played an important role in the development of the current under-18s playing group, having coached many of the players throughout their junior football years before following their progression into the club's senior football program.
Cook, meanwhile, has combined his coaching responsibilities with an outstanding individual season on the field, culminating in the 2026 Seymour Senior Best and Fairest award.
The pair will be supported by Jamie Kelly, a current senior assistant coach and former Seymour premiership player, who brings extensive football experience and a strong understanding of the club's culture and expectations.
SFNC president Peter Elliott said the appointments reflected the club's commitment to developing young footballers and strengthening the pathway into senior football.
“We couldn't be happier with the job Nigel and Dylan have done with our under-18s this season, and having them both recommit for 2027 is a fantastic outcome for our football program,” he said.
“Nigel has been involved with many of these boys for a number of years, coaching them through junior football and now helping them make the transition into the senior club.
“That continuity and the relationships he has built with the players are incredibly valuable.
"Dylan has also been outstanding. To balance coaching our under-18s with the demands of senior football, and then win our senior Best and Fairest, speaks volumes about his commitment and character.
“Having someone of Dylan's ability and standing in the competition working directly with our young footballers is a tremendous opportunity for their development.
“We're also delighted that Jamie Kelly will be joining the coaching group. Jamie is a Seymour premiership player, is currently involved in our senior coaching program and brings a wealth of experience and football knowledge.
“Having Nigel, Dylan and Jamie working together gives us a fantastic combination of continuity, leadership and experience.
"Our under-18s program is about developing good footballers, good people and preparing our young players to become long-term contributors to the Seymour Football Netball Club.
“We believe we've got an outstanding coaching team to continue that work in 2027.“
