With more than 5000 unpaid carers estimated to be living in Mitchell Shire, Carers Victoria is setting out to aid those who face challenges in their roles.
These carers assist with a variety of personal care, health care, transport, navigating complex service systems, managing financial tasks, emotional support, household chores and other activities — all without pay.
Working to bridge the service gap, Carers Victoria has announced it will bring expert advice, wellbeing activities and peer connection directly to local doorsteps.
On Wednesday, May 13, the organisation will host a Carers Lunch and Mingle at Seymour’s Royal Hotel.
The relaxed lunch, which is free for locally based carers, will offer an opportunity for connection with other carers, sharing experiences and learning about supports available in the community.
Attendees will also hear about Carers Victoria’s programs, services and supports, as well as from local experts like FamilyCare, which is part of the Victorian Carer Gateway consortium, and Mental Health Wellbeing Connect.
These guests will be available for informal chats to answer questions and share information about the programs, supports and activities they offer to carers.
“Carers value local, practical connection, but they’re up against service shortages, complex systems, travel demands and financial strain,” Carers Victoria regional care navigator Abbey Brown said.
“In regional areas especially, those pressures add up quickly, and many people don’t identify as carers early enough to access help.”
While the event is free, registrations must be made via carersvictoria.org.au/event/seymour-carers-lunch-mingle or by calling 1800 514 845.
