Led by Campaspe Shire Council’s waste education officer John McDonald, the interactive session had the children captivated as they learnt about which items belonged in each of the coloured bins and discovered their journey beyond collection day.
The session featured two stories, Charlie The Bin Truck Driver and A Seed Grows, where children followed Charlie’s adventures as a rubbish collector and learnt about the life cycle of a sunflower.
Mr McDonald read stories about recycling and composting to the children.

The activity concluded with Mr McDonald teaching participants why batteries don’t belong in the kerbside bins, explaining where they can safely dispose of them instead.
To wrap up, children enjoyed colouring in pictures of batteries with pencils and crayons, creating a poster to remind everyone about proper battery disposal.
Children coloured in the paper batteries with pencils and crayons before sticking them on the poster.
