The Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is set to support the delivery of the Harley Hammond tennis court reconstruction in Broadford, the LB Davern Reserve oval lighting upgrade in Wallan and the Pyalong Recreation Reserve Hall facility planning.
Council has secured $500,000 for the $1.132 million Harley Hammond Reserve project, which will involve the reconstruction of four tennis courts and associated lighting.
Council will contribute $632,000 to this project.
For the $370,000 lighting upgrade at LB Davern Reserve, $250,000 has been awarded by the government, with council contributing $120,000.
This project will improve safety and usability of the oval, enabling increased training and competition opportunities.
It is expected to deliver up to eight additional hours of mid-training capacity, helping to ease pressure on facilities in Kilmore.
Finally, $37,500 is being contributed to the $50,000 planning project for the Pyalong Recreation Reserve Hall, with a $12,500 co-contribution from council.
This project will develop initial design outcomes for future upgrades, including new toilets, change rooms and improved amenities.
Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall thanked the government for its support in delivering these projects.
“This funding allows us to invest in facilities that support more people to get involved in sport and active recreation, close to home,” he said.
“Projects like these are shaped by what our community has told us they need — better access, more capacity and facilities that are inclusive and fit for purpose.
“Council simply cannot deliver projects of this scale on its own. Support from the Victorian Government helps us bring forward projects that might otherwise take much longer to deliver.”
