Following the completion of initial bridge barrier repair works, repairs are set to move into stage two.
This stage will focus on the structural rehabilitation of the bridge deck, as well as resurfacing with new asphalt to reinstate the bridge’s functionality.
Upon completion, the bridge will re-open to two-way traffic.
The objective is to improve the structure’s long-term durability.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 25 and be completed by Monday, June 8 — weather permitting.
Unlike stage one, this stage of works will require the full closure of the Oak St bridge.
During the project, Oak St will also be temporarily closed between the Wimble St roundabout and the Tarcombe Rd/High St railway level crossing, but will remain accessible to local traffic.
The Oak St and Mentor St intersection will also be temporarily closed, but local traffic will still be able to access it.
The Oak St and Abdallah Rd intersection will be temporarily closed to all traffic.
Also during the works, signed detours will be in place and drivers are asked to allow extra travel time.
Heavy vehicles are encouraged to avoid travelling through Seymour where possible and instead use the Hume Hwy and Upper Goulburn Rd.
Vehicles classed B-double and above, including oversize overmass vehicles, will not be able to use the detour within Seymour and must use the Hume Hwy and Upper Goulburn Rd.
Additional maintenance works are also planned for the Oak St bridge as part of council’s ongoing bridge maintenance program.
Council is investigating whether these works can be completed alongside the current repairs, but, if not, they will be scheduled at a later date.
Council thanks the community for its patience while these important works are completed and will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
