On Monday, May 11, Seymour College captains Paige Cooper and Owen Brown presented alongside St Mary’s College captains Mikayla Eriksson and Thomas White on their experiences leading their respective schools.
“The student leaders spoke thoughtfully about what leadership within their schools means to them, sharing their experiences of working closely with fellow students and the important role leaders play in building positive school communities,” a local Rotary spokesperson said.
“They also discussed the challenges and opportunities involved in the transition from primary to secondary school and reflected on the many activities and programs they have participated in during their time at school.
“Their presentations were both inspirational and insightful, highlighting the confidence, maturity and commitment of these young leaders.
“The audience appreciated hearing first hand about the experiences and perspectives of students preparing for the future while making meaningful contributions to their school communities today.”
Seymour College principal Debbie Oliver and St Mary’s College principal Wayne Smith were also in attendance, showing support for their students.

The presentation by the captains was part of the local club’s focus on supporting young people in the community.
It does this through a range of initiatives and grants.
“Five hundred dollar sporting grants are offered to local youth groups and organisations, together with opportunities to participate in the Junior Community Awards for Year 6 students, the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment camps and Rotary Youth Leadership Award programs,” the spokesperson said.
“Students at primary and secondary levels in district schools are also given the opportunity to enter an annual writing award based on an environmental topic.
“Rotary Club of Seymour members have been involved with the Year 10 mock interview program at Seymour College for over 10 years.
“The club also provides end-of-year scholarships to primary and secondary students from local schools.”
The student leader meeting was an enjoyable night for attendees, with those leaving feeling inspired by the enthusiasm and initiative demonstrated by the students.
