“It provides us with a chance to reflect on everything we do,” Ms Waters said.
“It is a great time to remind ourselves that the positive learning environment that we have at Katandra West Primary School is intentional, it hasn’t come about accidentally.”
The school will kick Education Week off with a performance on Wednesday, May 20 for parents and carers followed by presentation showcases in each classroom.
Each class’s presentation will vary, including things like drawing, writing, speeches and movies.
Students are busy learning a song for the performance.
The Education Week event is just one of many fun things happening at the school.
Other highlights range from the end of year concert and student businesses to bike hikes and colour fun runs.
Ms Waters said their Year 5/6 and F/1 buddy program is another important activity that allows students across classes to work together.
“We intentionally build a supportive environment where students feel a sense of belonging, share common goals, and engage in frequent collaboration and social interaction,” Ms Waters said.
“We believe that creating a positive learning environment is important to enable students to participate and progress in their learning.
“Within our school, a sense of community is developed in each classroom.”
Outside the classroom, the school collaborates with a range of local community groups, which allows students to further explore their interests.
Ms Waters said the sense of community in and out of the classroom had fostered a vibrant, positive and fun daily life at Katandra West.
“The students, families, wider community, and staff all contribute to what makes our school great,” she said.
