Like a bull seeing red, Shepparton is carving a familiar trail of destruction in Rugby Victoria’s Conference Cup.
The Bulls are off to a flying start to the season following a commanding 48-5 win over Power House at Vibert Reserve, currently sitting top of the country conference.
Mitieli Mateiwai and Viliame Liga each crossed the try line twice and Samuela Waqarerevaki and Troy Onosai were on point from range, while a stern defensive effort restricted the visitors to a single try in response.
It follows a tight six-point triumph over metropolitan pacesetters Casey, but that’s as close as any side has been able to get to Moronae Silaga’s men after defeats of Geelong (38-5), Melbourne Chargers (112-5), and Bendigo (22-0).
The three-time reigning champions make the journey out to Monash University in round six before a top-of-the-table country division clash against Ballarat Highlanders.
Shepparton’s junior grades have also been hard at work emulating the seniors on the pitch.
The Northern-Shepparton under-18 side claimed its first win of the season against Moorabbin, running away a 53-26 to get on the board.
The combine is 1-2 but shown promising signs against Geelong (17-24) and Power House (19-38).
Meanwhile, the under-16s continue the hunt for their first win after a tense outing against Power House, as are the under-14s.
The next Shepparton Bulls home outing will be in round seven, with the club hosting Ballarat on Saturday, May 30 from 3.15pm.
