Clurey’s classy cameo
Invergordon’s mammoth Jim McGregor Shield total of 7-275 was enough to take the points in its C-grade clash against Euroa.
And it was largely fuelled by a familiar name at the top of the order.
Former Port Adelaide star and Katamatite flag winner Tom Clurey picked up the willow for the first time this season and smacked a brisk 78 off 57 deliveries, showing he’s just as adept with bat in hand as he is the Sherrin.
The big-hitting Clurey walloped 14 boundaries - three of which sailed over the fence – to help send Invergordon on its way to an 80-run win.
Pine Lodge’s Will Batey was another to tip the strike rate well North with 66 runs off only 44 deliveries in the Lodgers’ 54-run win over Karramomus.
Jarrod jumps back in
After more than two years off the park, a touch of rust would be expected.
That certainly wasn’t the case for Mooroopna’s Jarrod Zerbato.
Cricket Shepparton’s sole centurion of the weekend was kind enough to offer his services to Mooroopna’s SJ Perry Shield side, his first appearance after 32 months away from the crease.
He took no time settling back in, crunching 113 runs off 87 deliveries.
Moreover, Zerbato’s 167-run partnership with Lloyd Payne (88 not out) fired Mooroopna to a score of 4-247, in contrast to Pine Lodge’s 114 that ultimately handed the former a 133-run win.
Around the grounds
Admittedly, the latest round of cricket won’t exactly go into the history books.
But that left an opportunity for the wider pool of lower grade stars to make their mark.
Katandra number five Josh McKinnon peeled off a blistering 95 off 67 deliveries, scoring the bulk of the Eagles’ 9-165 in the D-grade clash against Karramomus.
His efforts ultimately went in vain, as the Bloods completed a convincing six-wicket win.
Meanwhile, Euroa’s Josh Robertson (80) and Lachlan Hill (70) proved a lethal one-two combo, launching the undefeated Magpies to a big win over CPStB.
