Scores of players, volunteers, and coaches often cover hundreds of kilometres per week, making road safety a critical message at the grassroots level.
It’s prompted eight clubs to take it upon themselves to encourage better choices on the road.
Kyabram District League clubs Tallygaroopna, Shepparton East, Nagambie, Violet Town, and Longwood, Goulburn Valley clubs Shepparton Swans and Shepparton United, and Murray Football League outfit Congupna each rolled out targeted road safety campaigns throughout 2026 to drive home one clear message.
Make the right choice, and slow down on the road.
“Road trauma impacts communities across Victoria, which is why local clubs have such an important role to play in helping create a culture where everyone takes responsibility for road safety,” TAC CEO Tracey Slatter said.
As a result of their efforts, all eight clubs will join 261 others in sharing part of the $700,000 drawn from the TAC Club Rewards Program.
Organisation’s can attract up to $10,000 in funding to assist with facility upgrades, equipment acquisition, and other programs designed to benefit club members.
“Hundreds of clubs across Victoria have shown a genuine commitment to creating a culture of safer road use over the course of the entire season,” Head of AFL Victoria Greg Madigan said.
“TAC Club Rewards funding is a terrific boost for those communities.”
