Police have confirmed they are investigating an assault at Notre Dame College in Shepparton on May 29.
They said an altercation occurred between a group of female students at around 1.30pm.
“The victim was not injured during the incident,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman claimed.
Notre Dame College is a Catholic co-educational school with two campuses; one in Knight St catering for students in Years 7 to 8 on its south side and students in Years 10 to 12 on its north side, while Year 9 students enrolled at the school attend its Emmaus Campus in Grace Rd, North Shepparton.
A spokesman for Notre Dame College said the incident took place during lunch break and involved students from its junior school in Knight St.
“The college has undertaken a thorough investigation and has responded in accordance with established policies and protocols,” he said.
“Appropriate action, including suspension has been taken in line with school guidelines for those students responsible, and both the Catholic Education Sandhurst and Victoria Police have been notified and consulted.”
The spokesman said parents of all students were notified of the incident and that the college’s priorities were the safety, wellbeing and ongoing support of those affected, “particularly the student and family impacted by the incident”.
He said the college had reinforced supervision and expectations of student behaviour.
“Conduct of this nature is not tolerated and Notre Dame College remains committed to fostering a safe, respectful and supportive environment for all students and staff,” the spokesman said.
“We acknowledge that such incidents can cause concern within the community and wish to reassure families that the college is managing the matter carefully in line with our procedures.”
Police said no arrests had been made, but investigations remained ongoing.
