The 21-year-old's speed has seen the Swan become a mainstay in the the senior side's midfield, lining up alongside the likes of Paul Arandt, Kyle Maynard and Jack Myers.
“It’s good to have so many people who can run through the midfield for the team,” Avola said.
But when Avola takes a 'break' up forward he also makes an impact, having kicked 25 goals this season (equal second for the team).
In his second season with Avenel – and his first full campaign after joining the club after round 10 last year – Avola has proven to be a dependable performer for the Swans in their 2019 campaign, playing all 15 matches, as well as featuring in the best on 11 occasions. Two of those were best-on-ground performances, including his five-goal haul against Rushworth in round 13.
While Avola is relatively happy with his form this season, he said he could still be better, though would not be looking to do too much differently from game to game.
“Kasey always tells me to run with the ball and use my pace,” Avola said.
“So, I’m just trying to constantly run with the ball and if I get tackled or something goes wrong, they don’t give me a hard time.
“They’re happy with it, as long as I give it my all.”
With only one round remaining before Avenel lines up in the finals series, the Swans have been on a roll lately, winning their past 11 matches.
The club lost to Tallygaroopna and Nagambie earlier this season, but Avola said the Swans were looking strong at the pointy end of the season.
“At the start of the year we started off a bit slow, just because so many new people came to the club,” Avola said.
“It’s obviously going to be hard with a lot of new guys trying to gel together.
“But at the moment we are playing really good footy, [coach Kasey Duncan] seems pretty happy, and there seems to be a bit of a buzz around the group.
“It couldn’t come at a better time, to be playing the way we are.”
