Works began on Monday, May 25 to upgrade the KidsTown Adventure Playground with a new concrete sports court that will provide additional recreation facilities for community members of all ages and abilities.
The upgrade includes a half basketball court, pickleball court, hopscotch markings and a large chessboard.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the upgrade was a step towards ensuring KidsTown could be enjoyed in the future.
“It is a much-loved community asset, and we recognise its importance to our community,” he said.
The works are expected to run for five weeks unless there are weather-related delays.
The upgrade follows works completed in March that removed unsafe equipment and prepared the site for future enhancements.
KidsTown will be open during the works, and Greater Shepparton City Council has asked the community to observe signage and to remain clear of the fenced off area.
These works are separate from the KidsTown Master Plan, which remains in progress.
