The branch members celebrated their shared history at the Seymour Club on Tuesday, June 24.
The branch, which has served the church and community for 66 years, has faced significant challenges recently, losing seven members over the past couple of years.
Eight members remain; however, a number of personal factors hinder their ability to meet regularly.
“It is a sign of the times, when many church groups, local clubs, or organisations are folding due to lack of new blood, new membership or leadership,” branch member Diane Grant said.
The Mother’s Union, established in England by Mary Sumner in 1876, began its Australian operations in 1892.
Today, it operates as an international organisation with over one million members across 60 countries.
The small group will soon decide whether to become MU Lone Members in 2026, as a result of dwindling participation.
Similar challenges face other MU branches across the Diocese of Wangaratta, with ageing membership and travel difficulties also impacting attendance.
In an effort increase interest in MU, the Diocese of Wangaratta is inviting MU members and all other church folk to attend the Spirited Women In Mission and Ministry Rally at the Cathedral College Wangaratta VCE Wing on July 26 from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
Mother’s Union Australia president Dr Robin Ray will be a guest speaker on the day, and will be joined on stage by Dr Robyn Heckenberg.
