Historical society AGM well attended

About 40 people attended Seymour and District Historical Society’s annual general meeting at Chittick Park in Seymour.

Outgoing president Geoff Halpin spoke of the devastation the October flood caused for the society’s Edwards St building, with 30cm deep water inundating the hall.

Most paper records were impacted, with many destroyed.

The Whiteheads Creek Fire Brigade loaned its hall to society members, who spent weeks trying to salvage paper records and irreplaceable historical records.

The group is currently using the Uniting Church hall to store documents.

The relocation has prompted the society to consider what records and items it intends to keep or move on.

A collection policy has been implemented, detailing future collections and offers.

Work has started on placing records online as per Historical Society Victoria guidelines, with a view to preservation for the future.

The society is considering relocation options, however no decision has been reached.
