This Friday, March 3, bestselling author Caroline Beecham will be visiting Shepparton Library to discuss her new historical fiction novel, Esther’s Children.
Esther’s Children is inspired by the life of Esther Simpson, a World War II hero who worked for the Society of the Protection of Science and Learning, helping rescue thousands of Jewish academics from the Nazis and helping them find employment in Britain.
As meticulously researched by Ms Beecham, Esther’s Children is the story of Esther’s work, intertwined with her own love story with the fictitious Jewish academic and musician Harry Singer.
A novelist, writer and producer, Ms Beecham is best known for her historical fiction. Some of her previous works include Maggie’s Kitchen, Eleanor’s Secret and Finding Eadie.
Her debut novel, Maggie’s Kitchen, was shortlisted for Booktopia’s Best Historical Fiction in 2016, nominated as Book of the Year, and Ms Beecham was recognised as Best New Author of the Year by AusRom Today.
Goulburn Valley Libraries program co-ordinator Bronwyn Cole said she was excited to have the author visit the library.
“I’m looking forward to Caroline speaking about the research that goes into her books, looking into the lives of people, deciding not only who to write about but which parts to include in the novel,” she said.
“I know Caroline’s books are works of fiction, but knowing they are based on real people and real events makes them that much more inspiring.”
Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event.
Ms Beecham will be visiting Shepparton Library on Friday, March 3, starting at 6pm.
