Each year, G-MW dewaters sections of its channel network during the irrigation off‑season to carry out essential maintenance on infrastructure normally beneath the waterline.
This year’s dewatering program will run from May 16 to August 14, with the 2026-27 irrigation season resuming on August 15.
G-MW general manager of water delivery services Warren Blyth said customers would be unable to place water orders during the off‑season and needed to prepare accordingly.
The last day for customers to submit water orders with guaranteed delivery will be Sunday, May 10.
“Irrigators won’t have access to water during this period, so it’s important they plan ahead, whether that’s filling tanks or dams or considering other arrangements,” Mr Blyth said.
He said the dewatering campaign also delivered broader benefits, allowing crews to inspect channel networks and control weeds.
“Exposing weeds to winter frost is one of the most effective and cost‑efficient ways to manage them, reducing the need for herbicide use,” he said.
Irrigators needing water during the off‑season must apply for an Out of Season Agreement.
