Hela died peacefully in her sleep in Melbourne, Victoria, at the age of 98.

Born in Schafstedt, Germany, she spent her early years beneath the northern stars.

She lived through the war, and married Wojciech — the man who would
walk beside her for 67 years. They came to Australia and found their
home in Tasmania and with the Polish community where they made many lifelong friends.

In her final years Hela moved to Eltham, Victoria, where she was tenderly cared for by the people
at St. Vincent's.

There, beneath gum trees and under the southern cross she slipped peacefully away.

She deeply loved her family, her home, her books and her garden —
a long life, fully and joyfully lived.

Death is not the end of a life well spent —
it is the echo of it.
Gone from sight,
but never from the
hearts she touched.

Hela will be deeply missed by her beloved family -
