The Australian Football Skool Shepparton Cup is set to draw close to 4000 players across 382 teams and 24 divisions, with matches spread across Shepparton Sport City, Mooroopna Recreation Reserve and Rumbalara this weekend.
Now in its 19th year, the tournament is shaping up to be the biggest edition to date.
“This event has honestly become the highlight of the junior football calendar across the country,” AFS Shepparton Cup director Rolando Navas said.
“We have teams from across Australia and even from New Zealand joining us this year, making it the biggest weekend of junior football we’ve ever had with 382 teams competing.
“It’s also wonderful to see how the Shepparton Cup has grown into a generational tradition.
“With teams coming from all over the nation and New Zealand, we’re now seeing former players who started as kids returning as coaches, referees, or even bringing their own children to participate.”
Running from October 23-25, competition spans age groups from under-7 through to under-17, with elite-level clubs from the NPL and state leagues also taking part in the Copa Division.
The influx of visitors also stands to benefit the region off the pitch according to City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Akers.
“Major sporting events like this not only showcase our excellent facilities and vibrant community,” he said.
“They also provide a significant boost to local businesses, accommodation providers and visitor attractions.
“We look forward to sharing our region with thousands of guests and creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.”
