Six young athletes from Seymour and surrounding towns set off to take part in the Stawell Gift at the end of March.
One of the world’s most famous and prestigious foot races, the Gift has been taking place since 1878.
The district athletes involved were Lucy Zotti, Liv Attard, Mandessah Wyatt, Hayden Anderson, Isabella Morgan and Cooper Lubeck.
Coach Kelvin Lubeck said the squad had an amazing result, taking out two first-place finishes.
Cooper Lubeck finished first in the 800m open event, while Attard crossed the line first in the 1600m front markers.
Results
Cooper Lubeck: first in 800m open, fifth in 1600m back markers.
Liv Attard: first in 1600m front markers, third in 800m women’s.
Lucy Zotti: second in 800m women’s.
Hayden Anderson: second in 100m restricted.
Mandessah Wyatt: fourth in 800m women’s, fifth in 1600m front markers.
Isabella Morgan: eighth in 400m women’s.
“They exceeded expectations,” the coach said.
“To have two winners in the Seymour squad was just amazing.
“And for Cooper and Olivia (Liv) to get first place is a testament to their hard work.
“For an athlete to win at Stawell is like a footy player winning a grand final.
“I couldn’t be happier with the whole squad.”
