With wet weather taking away the chance of a result at Alexandra and Yea, the only result from the weekend’s action came in the clash between Avenel and Pyalong.
Avenel 68 (J Byers 22no, S Mitchell 5-9, M Pratt 2-15) def by Pyalong 1-72 (D Clancy 27no, J Hadjiloukas 16)
A stunning bowling display from new recruit Steven Mitchell saw Pyalong claim the only win of the day in the Seymour Club A Grade.
Mitchell cut through the Avenel top order, reducing them to 8-25 on his way to the incredible figures of 5-9 off nine overs. The only resistance came from Avenel’s final pair of Jarrod Byers and Bradley Farrell, who were able to add some much needed lower order runs to the tally.
Pyalong didn’t muck around in chasing 68 for the win, with James Hadjiloukas (16), Dermott Clancy (27no) and Jamie Pryor (13no) combining to get the job done.
Alexandra 0-23 v Tallarook 4-194 (L Watts 86, L Irving 49, J Rudge 42, J Ferrier 2-42)
Tallarook batted first at Leckie Park and were quickly in charge following the early dismissal of Mitch Itter.
Lachlan Watts and Josh Rudge got the scoreboard moving in a 72-run partnership before Rudge was dismissed for 42 in a knock that included four fours and two sixes.
Watts and Leigh Irving combined for a further 105-run partnership before Watts was dismissed for a fantastic innings of 86, with Irving following after being bowled by Matthew Wal for 49.
The rain came with Tallarook on 4-194.
In reply, only six and a half overs were bowled before the match was abandoned due to the inclement weather.
Yea 6-205 (C Armstrong 61, J Christie 35, C Fountain 2-26, N Bennetts 2-37) v Puckapunyal 5-99 (C Davies 22, W Dalton 2-7, C Armstrong 2-12)
Yea flexed its muscle with the bat in its match against Puckapunyal at home, putting 6-205 on the board.
Laurence Heath with 28 and Jack Christie with 35 led the way at the top of the order before Cam Armstrong came to the crease at number six. Armstrong’s second consecutive 50 was another destructive knock as he made 61 off 54, pushing Yea’s total over the 200 mark.
Ciaron Fountain and Nicholas Bennetts were the pick of the bowlers for Puckapunyal with two wickets each.
With overs lost during the second innings, all Puckapunyal needed to do was bat out the overs for a draw. Cam Armstrong and Will Dalton both claimed two wickets but were unable to run through the Puckapunyal lineup and secure a result.
