The first of two meets within a 10-day period at Seymour, the Christmas Party Race Day boasted eight races, the first out of the gates being the bet365 Bet Boost Maiden Plate, which saw Logan McNeil salute aboard Ring The Sherriff by half a length for Swan Hill-based trainer Nathan Hobson.
Makhanda, ridden by Eoin Walsh, storms home to the win in the Magic Millions Gold Coast Jan 13-18 BM62 Handicap.
Eoin Walsh was aboard the winner in race two, the Rod Symons-trained four-year-old gelding Makhanda, a $14 chance, which prevailed by less than a length, while Harry Coffey steered home Dihheri, trained by Lloyd Kennewell, to win by half-a-length in race three.
Bailey Reed Kinninmont nabbed his first win of the afternoon for Luke Oliver aboard Smash Blue in race four, while the Anthony and Sam Freedman partnership ensured its day out at Seymour was a success, with Jett Stanley on the reins as Brickendon beat the Lindsay Park-trained Great Fuego to the post.
Jockey Jett Stanley celebrates his double after steering Asiatic to the win in the final race of the day.
Jye McNeil, older brother of Logan, continued the family success with a brilliant ride on $20 outsider Homeward to give Jerilderie-based trainer Paul McVicar a win in race six, while Zoe Waller saluted on Yolo for Ciaron Maher in race seven.
Stanley made it a double in the final race of the day with a masterful performance to push Asiatic a nose in front at the line, delighting punters with the three-year-old filly paying $25 for the win, while giving trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young their first triumph of the afternoon.
There’s more to come at Seymour before the new year, with the Kids Day Out on December 28 set to provide a full day of family fun at the races, complete with pony rides, jumping castles and face painting.
