Not only did the Lions secure a huge 67-28 victory over Mansfield, taking one step closer to securing a top-three finish, but they also ticked off a pretty important milestone: clinching a Goulburn Valley League finals berth.
While Seymour always looked destined to play on beyond the home-and-away season, it is now official, as the Lions have moved five-and-a-half games clear of sixth-placed Shepparton Swans with four rounds remaining in the season, punching their ticket to September.
If they are able to maintain their current form, they will be a real threat to any side they encounter, with Saturday’s victory marking seven straight wins, and it was done so in style.
Setting the tone in the first term with an eight-goal run to open up a 14-5 lead by the first break, the Lions were in imperious form, forcing turnovers with immense pressure defensively, while transitioning the ball at pace to give the goalers great opportunity to capitalise.
It was taken to another level in the second term, with Seymour pressing the advantage, pouring in 20 goals while restricting Mansfield to just eight, widening the margin to enjoy a 34-13 lead at the main break.
There was a clear gulf in the class between the two sides, with the Lions keeping their foot pinned to the floor in the third term as the lead ballooned, and by the final break it neared 30 goals, the home side ahead 50-21.
Another uninterrupted run of eight goals to get the final term under way put the icing on what had been a completely and utterly dominant showing from Seymour, who flirted with a 40-goal win as the minutes ticked down, eventually having to settle for the 39-goal victory.
Sarah Szczykulski was named best-on-court in the win, continuing what has been another strong season for the former Wellman medallist, with Ruby Martin and Rosie O’Sullivan also among the best as the Lions storm towards what they hope will be a deep finals campaign.
The Lions are also well placed across the rest of the senior netball grades, sitting a game clear on top in B-grade and two games clear in B-reserve, a continuation of the sustained success Seymour has enjoyed on the netball court in recent times.
However, round 15 presents a stern test for the A-grade Lions, who will host reigning premier Euroa at Kings Park this Saturday in a huge second-versus-third clash as they look to make it eight wins on the trot.
