Cooma’s bowlers took control of the game early after Leitchville-Gunbower won the toss and elected to bat in the Goulburn Murray Cricket grand final, played at the Echuca South reserve.
Xavier Fawcett took 4-16 off 5.1 overs and Hunter Fawcett and Sam Barbagallo each picked up two wickets in economical spells for the victors.
Opener Scott Lucas with a fighting half-century and Jasper Hare (20) staged an early fightback with the bat, but once they fell the Cooma bowlers got right on top to dismiss Leitchville-Gunbower for 128 in 38.1 overs.
Cooma’s frontline batsmen had the score covered in 27 overs, with eight wickets in hand.
Openers Liam Scopelliti, with an innings high 43 off 56 deliveries, and Archer Backway, with 30, wiped 65 off the run chase before evergreen Russ Napier (22 not out) and Cooper Fawcett (21 not out) got the runs to ensure Cooma of the flag.
GOULBURN
Echuca won the Bill Williams Goulburn B-grade flag, cruising to a four wicket win over Stanhope.
Archie Carlile, with an unbeaten 78, led Echuca to a competitive score of 6-181 after it had won the toss and elected to bat in the clash at Moama.
Skipper Bradd Stewart, with 2-39 off seven overs, was Stanhope’s only multiple wicket taker.
In the run chase, Stanhope failed to get a threatening partnership going with opener Craig Emmett’s 18 the best score.
Three other batsmen — Bradd Stewart, Matt Evan and Danyon Stockdale — all scored 16 runs in a disappointing reply score of 108.
