Crime Manager Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown said officers initially noticed a car “driving erratically” on Decimus St at about 4.30pm.
Initial checks revealed the car had a cancelled registration.
“Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it did not comply, and a pursuit was initiated,” Det Chief Insp Brown said.
“Starting in Decimus St, the car got up to speeds of about 90km/h in the 50km/h zones in the north west of Deniliquin, to Ochtertyre St and then eventually slowing down and coming to a stop in Kelly St.
“The driver was handcuffed while police conducted a search of the car, and he was then arrested and brought back to the station.
“There he tested negative for alcohol, but failed the drug test.”
As a result of the failed drug test, the dirver was suspended from driving for 24 hours.
Further charges may apply, depending on the results of additional testing of the saliva sample.
The man was charged with multiple traffic offences relating to the pursuit, failing to stop and “reckless” driving, as well as driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

Deniliquin Rural Crime Investigators responded to ongoing concerns from landholders surrounding Werai Lands, regarding trespassing and illegal hunting and fishing, by running a special operation over the King’s Birthday long weekend.
