The largest private employer in Mitchell Shire, the Nestlé Broadford factory, will soon be making more Allen’s lollies after receiving $12 million funding for expansion.
Nestlé Broadford factory manager Emily Bradbury said the expanded facilities would allow the company to scale up production.
“Which is good news for lolly lovers and for Broadford,” she said.
More than 2000 tonnes more chew lollies will be produced at the factory each year, including Minties, Red Ripperz and Sherbies.
The expansion will allow nine new jobs and provide long-term job security for more than 200 existing employees.
Allen’s, owned by Nestlé, has been produced in Broadford since 1982, with the factory now operating 24 hours a day, five days a week.
The state government funding comes from the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.
Victorian Regional Development Minister Harriet Shing visited the factory to announce the support and emphasised the Goulburn Valley was a food manufacturing powerhouse.
“Workers at the Nestlé factory in Broadford have built a delicious and iconic legacy over the past 40 years and our support is helping the Allen’s brand continue to grow.”
The Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund has contributed more than $48 million to projects in the Goulburn Valley since 2015.
