The car park is one single on-grade car park held in two ownerships. Council owns half and the other half is leased by Woolworths as part of its supermarket premises.
In 2019, Woolworths invested $300,000 into the resurfacing and upgrading of the Woolworths-leased section of the car park.
But cracks and potholes in the council-owned portion were highlighted by recent wet weather, with Seymour’s Geraldine Ryan concerned it was a trip hazard.
“It’s been an issue for a while and I’ve been minding my own business hoping someone would fix it,” she said.
“But after the recent rain it was just ridiculous. Wheeling a trolley from the front entrance to the car across that surface is an effort for older people.”
Mitchell Shire Council chief executive Brett Luxford said recent wet weather had impacted the condition of the partly council-owned car park.
“Council will undertake some short-term repairs at the car park in the next week (weather depending).
“The full resurfacing of the council-owned portion of the car park is also planned as part of council’s $4.4 million road renewal program, allocated in the 2021-2022 budget.”
A Woolworths spokesperson said Woolworths was always looking at ways to deliver the best possible experience for customers.
“We’re aware of the concerns raised about the Mitchell Shire Council-owned section of the car park which sits adjacent to our store,” the spokesperson said.
“We have raised these concerns with council and we look forward to Mitchell Shire Council addressing these matters as soon as possible.”
