Seymour and District Historical Society to hold AGM

Restoring history: Seymour and District Historical Society committee of management Tony Wallis, Nancy Halpin, Anne Thompson, Dianne Davey, Dave Willis, Geoff Halpin and Ted Robl deliberating on the pathway to restore the society’s collection to its Pioneer Library home.

The Seymour and District Historical Society’s annual general meeting will be held at Chittick Park at 2pm on Sunday, February 26 at Chittick Park Community Place.

The community is invited to come along to the meeting and hear how the society dealt with the flood, and learn about its plans for restoration and replacement of the important community assets in its collection.

Like many people, organisations and businesses in Seymour, the society’s rooms, in the old Pioneer Library building in Tallarook St, were badly flooded.

The important items in the extensive collections that were not lost or seriously damaged had to be stored in another building.

The Uniting Church generously offered the hall at the rear of its church, and a team of big-hearted volunteers helped move the invaluable material to the safe location.

This large collection of papers, objects, furniture and paintings are the memories of our town and region, and a significant community asset.

The work to restore, reorganise and return it to the refurbished society’s building is a formidable task.

The society’s committee has embarked upon an ambitious work program that has been carefully planned.
