From July 1, Seymour Health will partner with Austin Health, Mercy Health and Northern Health; all combining to form the North Metro and Mitchell Network.
The aim of the network is to deliver better-connected and more accessible healthcare for communities across the state.
The services have a goal of providing care that is closer to home, easier to navigate and tailored to the specific needs of the diverse populations they cover.
Each health service within the network will retain its own unique identity, leadership and connection to the community it serves, ensuring local voices will continue to shape the care provided.
The network model aims to deliver a number of outcomes, such as:
- Improved access and equity: Streamlined referral pathways and coordinated services are set to make it easier for patients to receive the care they need without unnecessary delays
- Enhanced workforce support: Collaborative planning aims to strengthen each service’s ability to attract, retain and support a skilled healthcare workforce, ensuring sustainability and excellence in care delivery
- Focus on safety and quality: Unified clinical governance to promote consistent, high-quality care across all services
- Efficient use of resources: Sharing back-office functions and support services should reduce duplication, allowing more resources to be directed towards patient care
This initiative aligns with the Victorian Government’s commitment to strengthening the health system, ensuring every Victorian has access to timely, high-quality care.
