As well as being a way to recognise club efforts over the past 12 months and an induction for the club board for the next 12, Rotarians used it as an opportunity to distribute support to a number of other local groups.
Simon Genoff will lead the club as president in 2026-2027, continuing the work of Iain Goodway who steps down the role after two years at the helm.
Joining Rotarians and their partners at the dinner were community representatives and guests, including from Edward River Council, the Rotary Club of Rochester, the Deniliquin Lions Club, and the Deniliquin Business Chamber.
Mr Goodway reflected on the year, which he said had strong achievements balanced by moments of sadness.
The club mourned the passing of long-standing member and past president George Maddison in December, which came in the same calendar year as the passing of Di Hand.
Both were remembered with gratitude and respect for their contribution to Rotary and the wider community.
A special surprise concluded the evening when Mr Goodway was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow recognition, honouring his service and contribution to Rotary and the community.
Highlights for the club in the last 12 months included its best ever return from its Deni Ute Muster catering, continued growth of the Rotary and Edward River Art Society Easter Art Show, and a successful 75th anniversary celebration recognising Rotary service in Deniliquin.
The club also acknowledged a renewed focus on youth programs, with interest in Rotary Youth Exchange, RYLA and RYPEN, all of which aim to build leadership, confidence and community-mindedness among young people.
A number of local organisations supported by Rotary throughout the year were recognised - Can Assist, Channel 4 Change, Deniliquin & District Historical Society, Deniliquin Friends of the Cemetery, Deniliquin Local Aboriginal Land Council Food Bank, Deniliquin Men’s Shed, Deniliquin North School Breakfast Program, Kolety Fishing Classic, Domestic Violence Awareness Committee, Naponda Store, Navorina Nursing Home, Orana Southern Cross Care, Outback Theatre for Young People, Vinnies and WIRES Deniliquin.
Other supported projects included Australian Rotary Health, Daffodil Day Cancer Council, Deniliquin High School, Elephant in the Room, Rotary Foundation and Tankful of Hope.
Martin Wilmshurst was also recognised as an Honorary Member of the club, acknowledging his many years of Rotary service, including serving twice as President, Assistant District Governor, and Paul Harris Fellow.
The 2026-27 Board was formally installed, with Mr Genoff as president and Mr Goodway as vice president and treasurer.
Nichole Genoff is secretary, Angela Parker is in charge of public relations, Cheryl McMillan will work on membership and new generations, and Tony Kew will be responsible for service projects.
