The project began following the recognition by Rotary members of the waste involved with millions of dollars of good quality playground material being sent to landfills when many children in developing countries fail to experience the enjoyment of using playground equipment.
The project, therefore, involves the collection of unwanted playgrounds from schools and councils before sending them to disadvantaged overseas communities.

The Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell contacted the Rotary Club of Seymour to become involved in a local RORP project when Mitchell Shire Council planned to demolish the playground at Kings Park in Tallarook St to replace it with a new one.
Local Rotarians were able to code the playground pieces before dismantling the equipment, which was then transported to Melbourne for shipment to an overseas community for reconstruction.
To date, 40 playgrounds have been collected across Victoria, with destinations including Timor-Leste, the Philippines, Tanzania and Sri Lanka.
