Of course longevity is not the only measure, but the Ky rodeo is still among Australia’s finest.
Launched in 1946, the rodeo is held on the Friday of the Labour Day long weekend in March.
As were many events in Victoria, it was not held in 2021 due to COVID-19, but it has been a staple on Australia’s rodeo circuit since it was first held in 1946.
“Ky’s just been so supportive of the event,“ rodeo committee secretary Janelle McDonald said.
“I’ve been doing it the last 36-37 years and it’s just been so well supported.
“It’s a great atmosphere and once you get it in your blood, you can’t get it out of you.
“It’s a family friendly event. We like to run it as family friendly. There’s plenty of sideshows for the kids to have a go on and spend mum and dad’s money on and the action, it’s absolutely amazing and brilliant.”
The rodeo is a Friday night event and part of a tri-series with rodeos in Merrijig (Saturday) and Chiltern (Sunday) over the long weekend.
It attracts competitors from all over Australia, and also from the professional ranks in Canada and the United States.
