The women spent the afternoon reminiscing about their history and enjoying tea, coffee, sandwiches and high-quality homemade slices.
The CWA colours of green and gold were displayed on a custom cake featuring an image of the branch’s members and accompanied by bouquets of roses and wattle.
The Caniambo branch has hosted many concerts across the years, featuring songs and dances from across the world and the ‘Cosiambo Singers’, a performance group with members from Caniambo and Cosgrove South.
There was a particularly memorable concert where lightning struck a power pole across the road, causing the hall to lose power.
The day was saved by a quick-thinking young man, who drove his ute to the doors to provide lighting to the stage; however, the attendees were unable to indulge in their customary cups of tea.
The group also recalled participating in the Murray River Marathon as a relay team called ‘Chicks With Attitude’.
The Caniambo branch members often helped put on ‘kitchen teas’ and ‘tin kettlings’ for newly married couples in the area, celebrating their union and setting them up with kitchen items for their new homes.
In 2009, a mural of local plants and wildlife was added to the hall, and one of its creators, Barbara Ramage, attended the anniversary celebration.
Ms Ramage has been a member of CWA for nearly 70 years.
The mural is well appreciated in the local area, with many people taking their visiting friends and family to see it.
The mural is one of many additions by the CWA that help ensure the building’s proud history will be remembered for generations to come.
