The inaugural Murray River Police Charity Bowls Day, scheduled for September 24 at the Howlong Country Golf Club, promises to bring together local law enforcement, emergency services, and the broader community for a day of camaraderie and fundraising.
The brainchild behind this charitable event is former Albury detective inspector Brad Blanchard, who, with the assistance of Corowa Sergeant Stephen Marshall, has taken it upon himself to establish a meaningful tradition in the region.
“In the central west, we used to have police charity days regularly and thought, why not do that here?” Mr Blanchard said.
“Cancer affects us all in one way or another, and this event is our way of making a positive impact on the lives of those facing this challenge.
“The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre does incredible work, and we want to contribute to their efforts. Hopefully we can turn it into an annual event.”
Sergeant Marshall highlighted the importance of the event as a means of fostering stronger community ties with the local police force and other emergency services.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community to get to know their local police, with other emergency services on both sides of the border invited as well,” he said.
“This event is not just about raising funds; it’s about building connections within our community and strengthening our bonds with other emergency services and the community. We’ve even reached out to our cross-border counterparts to enhance collaboration. It’s all about unity and fellowship.”
The Murray River Police Charity Bowls Day will kick off at 10am. Teams of four can participate for a registration fee of $60, and there are 24 team positions available. The registration fee includes a sausage sizzle.
Additionally, there will be raffle tickets available for purchase, with prizes generously donated by local businesses.
Organisers are also encouraging donations of items for the raffle to help raise funds for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
To register a team or inquire about donations, interested individuals can call the Howlong Golf and Bowls Resort at (02) 6026 5321 or contact Brad Blanchard directly at 0499 773 397. Entries close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, so participants are encouraged to secure their spots promptly.
The Murray River Police Charity Bowls Day promises to be a fantastic day of fun, fellowship, and community support for a vital cause. All are welcome to join in, enjoy some friendly competition, and contribute to the fight against cancer in the Albury Wodonga region.
