Thirty-one Murray cod weighing a combined 102kg have been released into the local river system.
Varying in length from 45cm to 60cm, the mature breeding males and females average 3.3kg each.
The Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge group released the cod on November 23, as part of their Adopt-a-Cod program.
It replenishes the river with fish that were sponsored by local business, as well as interested individuals.
The release of male and female mature breeding cod should hopefully contribute to the growth of cod numbers in our rivers.
There were an estimated 50 sponsors that turned up on the day to see and help with the release of the cod.
The release came just before cod season opening, which was Sunday.
Replenishing the river with native fish through the Adopt-a-Cod program doesn’t require you to be a fan of fishing.
Sponsoring fish as part of the program is a fantastic way to help with conservation efforts and the health of our river.
