This collection reflects the artist’s ongoing engagement with place movement and lived experience in the region.
“(The exhibition is) a bundle of ideas and meetings of one-off maps and drawings and limited-edition prints showing some of the secret pathways into the hidden hills of Wondoomorook,” Mr Ayres said.
An accomplished artist, Mr Ayres is also a map-maker and bus driver from Strathbogie.
His practice spans creative mapping, visual art and community engagement, and he has exhibited widely.
He has also completed numerous mapping commissions across the state.
In 2027, Mr Ayres will present a commissioned exhibition at the Shepparton Art Museum.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Scott Jeffery said council was proud to support artists whose work deeply connected to local stories and landscapes.
“We are proud to showcase an artist who uses mapping to tell local stories,” Cr Jeffery said.
“Sim Ayres’ work reflects the depth and richness of our region and the creative voices that come from it.”
Visitors are encouraged to drop in throughout May and meet the artist during gallery opening hours — from Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 2.30pm at 25 Binney St, Euroa.
The exhibition can also be viewed at any time through the Artbox glass windows.
To Wondoomorook is the final Artbox exhibition in Euroa this year, and marks the 34th exhibition presented through council’s micro gallery program.
The Artbox will move to the Strathbogie township next for a three-month residency.
