Flowers are a staple of Valentine’s Day, and River Gum Florist in Seymour is well prepared for the Heart’s Day rush.
River Gum Florist owner Lorraine Fulco said she hoped for a busy week and was ready for the rush of last-minute customers.
“We have lots of people just turn up, which is great,” she said.
“We expect that that happens for Valentine’s Day.”
River Gum Florist usually operates in Lorraine’s home but had to temporarily relocate to a shed in Hume and Hovell Rd due to renovations.
“We moved out to a shed ... back in July expecting to be back into our house to run the business for Valentine’s Day,” Lorraine said.
“We’re in this shed, and we’re hoping people find us out here.”
Lorraine said many young customers came in for an arrangement for their special someone.
“For Valentine’s Day, men generally like the red roses,” she said.
“We do try to say we’ll put a red rose or two in there but mix it with something else.”
“If they want red roses, get in quick!”
Plenty to choose from: Flowers aren’t the only option to make Valentine’s Day special. Other romantic treats, such as teddy bears and chocolates, are available at River Gum Florist. Photo: River Gum Florist
River Gum Florist also offers selections beyond just the traditional flowers.
“We will do anything that we can for you,” Lorraine said.
“We’re happy to discuss requirements.
“We’ve got teddy bears, Valentine balloons, chocolate, wine and candles to add on.”
The business also offers free delivery in Seymour on Valentine’s Day if you ring up for an order over $100.
Of course, not everyone celebrates Valentine’s Day on the day itself.
Lorraine said she often got orders the day after from forgetful customers.
“Don’t be that man coming up here on the 15th saying you forgot!” she said with a laugh.
