Seymour’s Kmart and Salvation Army have partnered for the 36th annual Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal.
Now, they are calling for the community’s support with any gift or monetary contributions, with a deadline of Sunday, December 24.
Contributions can be made in-store or online.
Kmart Seymour Wishing Tree ‘champion’ Bronwyn Mills said the appeal had been an important local initiative that directly helped people struggling.
“I feel the appeal is a chance for Seymour to do their bit and give back,” Ms Mills said.
“We’ve already received around 50 gifts in four weeks but want to keep this incredible support going in the countdown to Christmas.”
Major Rebecca Inglis of the Salvation Army said the need was even greater this year.
“Christmas is the busiest time of year for the Salvation Army, and we consider it a privilege to be able to support individuals and families right across the country with gifts and toys to make their Christmas that bit more special,” she said.
“Our hope at Christmas is for no-one to have to do it alone.
“We are extremely proud and grateful to Kmart and the Wishing Tree Appeal, who for over 36 years have partnered with the Salvos to help brighten the festive season for those doing it tough.”
To get involved, people can place unwrapped gifts under any Wishing Tree at any Kmart store.
Organisers encourage donors to choose a practical gift and consider presents for older kids to ensure nobody misses out.
Meanwhile, shoppers can make financial contributions through self-checkouts, gold coin donations or the Wishing Tree QR code found in the store or on the appeal website at www.kmart.com.au/kmartwishingtree/
