Seniors Month is a chance to celebrate getting older and all the opportunities that come with it.
This year, U3A Benalla is inviting local people aged 50 and over to get involved, meet others and perhaps discover a new interest.
U3A Benalla provides opportunities for people in their third age of life – generally after full-time employment and family responsibilities – to continue learning, to share knowledge and skills, and develop new friendships.
Members learn from each other in a friendly, relaxed environment, with courses and activities reflecting the interests and experience of local members.
U3A Benalla has grown into a diverse community of more than 450 members with about 40 courses and activities.
Its program provides opportunities to learn, stay active, pursue interests, share skills and, perhaps most importantly, connect with other people.
Senior’s Week provides an ideal opportunity for people who have wondered what U3A is about to come along and have a go.
U3A Benalla will offer four special opportunities as part of the Victorian Government’s Seniors Month celebrations.
U3A Come and Try
This popular program offers members and guests the opportunity to sample a range of U3A groups before deciding whether they would like to join. Activities available include Sustainability and Stock and Land, Exercises for Fun, Mah-jong, Cards 500, Critical Thinking, and Tech Support.
For existing members, it is also a chance to explore activities that might become part of their 2027 U3A program.
Get Connected
On Wednesday, October 21, U3A’s Tech Team will combine a relaxed barbecue and chat with practical help for people wanting to become more confident using their phones, tablets and other devices.
U3A Benalla Ukulele Group performance
Music lovers can hear U3A’s talented Ukulele Group at the Devenish Market on Saturday, October 4. The group will be playing and singing at Bicentennial Park from 9am to 12pm. There is no need to book – visitors can simply turn up, enjoy the music and explore the market stalls.
Community Expo and Come and Try Day
U3A Benalla will also have a presence at Benalla Rural City Council’s upcoming Community Expo and Come and Try Day, on Sunday, October 11, from 10am to 2pm at the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre and Benalla UFS Sports Reserve.
U3A Benalla President Anne Nelson said Seniors Month was a good opportunity for people to find out what U3A was all about without feeling they had to make a commitment.
“Come and Try is a great way to meet people, have a go at something different and see what interests you,” she said.
All Seniors Month activities are free, although some ‘Come and Try’ sessions require contact with the group convenor beforehand.
