The bursary is open to residents of the Murrumbidgee Council area.
Applicants must submit an essay of no less than 1000 words addressing the topic: ‘Monash spent his early years in Jerilderie. Did that experience shape the man Sir John was to become?’.
Monash, one of Australia's most respected military commanders, spent part of his childhood in Jerilderie and attending Jerilderie Public School from 1874 to 1877.
He went on to achieve significant success and leadership on both the national and international stage.
Murrumbidgee Mayor Ruth McRae OAM said the bursary offered students a meaningful opportunity to engage with local history.
“This bursary supports our young people to pursue their goals and share their ideas, while also connecting with the story of Sir John Monash and his ties to Jerilderie,” she said.
Applications close at 4pm on Friday, September 4, 2026.
The successful recipient will be announced at the Jerilderie Remembrance Day service.
The Monash Bursary is funded by the Jerilderie Monash Committee and Murrumbidgee Council. Go to www.murrumbidgee.nsw.gov.au/My-council/Grants-scholarships/Scholarships-bursaries for more details.
