Author and historian speaks at Seymour Historical Society meeting with new committee elected

The meeting gave members a chance to elect a new committee for 2025 and discuss the society’s plans for the next 12 months.

Addressing the healthy crowd, president Geoff Halpin said the society was looking to the future.

He spoke about the development of a new website, making it easier for the public to make contact when researching family history.

After passing its 60th year in Seymour and still recovering from the devastating effect of recent floods, the group was finally back in its own hall.

Mr Halpin said that would not have been possible without assistance from Mitchell Shire.

He also spoke of continued support from Kilmartin Pharmacy in Station St, which allows the society to change displays in its windows.

“The proceeds from local events, including the show and shine and Seymour show, have been invaluable,” Mr Halpin said.

In closing, he thanked his outgoing committee members for their tireless work under difficult circumstances in recent times.

Past president John Jennings officiated in the elections for the new committee.
