Seymour FM was granted the money from the Australian Rail Track Corporation after the not-for-profit community broadcasting station was the victim of an arson attack in July last year.
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum said that while the jobs and stimulus from Inland Rail’s construction in Victoria was still to come, the project had already supported several local groups and organisations in Nicholls.
“The Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program provides small grants for community-initiated projects that contribute to wellbeing, prosperity or sustainability in the regions where Inland Rail will operate,” Mr Drum said.
“Thanks to this $4000 grant from ARTC, Seymour FM have rebuilt their transmission tower that was tragically destroyed last year.
“It’s a small gesture from our national rail operator that is making a big difference to people in Nicholls.
“Community groups and associations make an enormous contribution to the social connection and wellbeing of our regions.
“Another round of the program is currently open, and I encourage local groups and schools to familiarise themselves with the guidelines and submit an application.”
ARTC has supported 10 community groups in Nicholls, collectively receiving grants worth more than $30,000. Recipients have included the Broadford and Branjee fire brigades, the Lions Club of Seymour Goulburn, and Avenel Action Group.
