But they need your help.
The group is planning an afternoon tea at the Strathbogie Memorial Hall in August to scan and collate the various documents and is asking community members to bring along any photos or other documents they want to share.
Group president Lisa Duggan said the hunt was on to collate old photos that were stashed in cupboards, draws and shoeboxes.
‘‘Unfortunately, as we all age and time progresses we run the risk of some of this important heritage being lost forever,’’ she said.
‘‘We understand that some of our community may not be able to locate their stored images without a helping hand, so volunteers will be provided.
‘‘Please pass the word around to anyone you know who may have some wonderful records of past life in the region.
‘‘Our goal is to collect and collate all the photos on August 18 at the hall from 1.30pm but there will be more information regarding that.
‘‘The scanner we hope to purchase (depending on a council grant) is able to scan and enhance photos and also old slides and negatives.’’
The committee to organise the photo gathering day will meet on June 2 from 2pm at 142 Mt Wombat Rd, Strathbogie.
