FCJ College has started work to refurbish its Year 8 classrooms and student amenities as well as remodelling its woodworking and food tech spaces.

The project has been made possible thanks to a Victorian Government grant of $2 million.

FCJ College principal Shaun Mason said local business Landmark Construction had been chosen to do the work.

“We're thrilled to be working with a local company on the build and looking forward to seeing the end results,”Mr Mason said.

“(The grant application) for this was done before I started.

“Our previous principal Joanne Rock and the college council did a lot of work on that.”

The planned upgrades came about as the school was looking for opportunities to maximise its learning spaces.

That combined with a strong interest in the technology curriculum means it is always looking for ways to improve the learning experiences of students.

“These building works look to the future of contemporary learning,” Mr Mason said.

“The work will be undertaken in two stages.

“The woodworking and food tech rooms will be refurbished first and should be ready early in the new year.

“The Year 8 classrooms should be completed by about the middle of May.”

This refurbishment and extensions are part of the College Masterplan — which began with the Multipurpose Hall last year.
