It was clear Russia still wanted to occupy eastern Ukraine as well as the cities of Zaporizhzhya and Dnipro in the south, he said on Monday.
"It is difficult for them, but they have their eyes on the Odessa region," he said.
However, according to Ukrainian assessments, the Russian forces are not sufficient.
"Their maps do not match reality - where our forces are and where their forces are," Zelenskiy was quoted by the state news agency Ukrinform as saying.
"They cannot start the March offensive as they wanted."
A new round of US-brokered peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, scheduled for this week, hadn't been cancelled following the weekend strikes on Iran by the US and Israel, Zelenskiy said.
But Kyiv is considering a new location for the talks, which had been due to take place on March 5 and 6 in Abu Dhabi, with Turkey or Switzerland possibilities.
"We are ready, but not all leaders of the European Union are ... I mean, not everyone is ready to give Ukraine this opportunity," Zelenskiy told reporters in a WhatsApp media chat.
Ukraine became a formal EU candidate country in the early days after Russia's invasion in February 2022.
The Russian army has been advancing continuously since the latter end of 2023, albeit slowly and with heavy losses.
Recently, with the start of the fifth year of the war, the Ukrainian defenders have managed to stabilise the situation.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi even stated that in February, his army had recaptured more territory than it had given up.
In contrast, the Ukrainian military blog DeepState calculated a loss of 126sq/km.
However, this was only half as much as in January and the lowest loss since July 2024.
Russia has been waging a large-scale war against its neighbouring country since February 2022.
Even though Moscow has lost many soldiers and the war is weakening its economy, the Kremlin is not deviating from its goal of subjugating Ukraine.
Ukraine, in turn, is defending itself with the help of European countries.
