Car hits multiple pedestrians in British city centre

Police said a black Suzuki Swift was stopped after the incident in Friar Gate at about 9:30pm (8:30am Sunday AEDT).

Some ‌victims ​were ​seriously injured and ‌treated ​at the scene by ambulance ​crews ​before ​being taken ‌to hospital, police said.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested and taken into police custody.

"Although we know this will be alarming, we would like to reassure people that we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public," police said in a statement on Facebook.

Derby is in the East Midlands region, 180km north of London.
