Shepparton South Primary School was officially opened on February 3, 1953 with Head Teacher Mr T.G. Cook, a staff of 12 and 436 students.
A 10 acre (4 hectare) site, with low wire fence,
Aluminium pre-fabricated building was put up by by Overseas Corporation Ltd from Bristol, England.
St Georges Rd, Shepparton is unmade with no footpaths.
An occupied very old residence is on site, not removed until 1967.
Preliminary ploughing and grading of site by Shepparton City Council.
1954
Two shelter pavilions built. Bicycle shelters completed.
School name changed to St Georges Road Primary School.
1955
School uniform and badge designed.
F.J. Edwards oval opened. (Named after Mr Jack Edwards, first President of Parents and Citizens Committee).
Two L.T.C. rooms built to the north of main building.
1956
Entrance hall painted at Councillor Vibert’s expense.
1957
Two additional L.T.C. rooms built at the north side of the main building.
School grounds sealed.
1959
School choir was formed.
John Barry pavilion opened (Named after Mr J. Barry Head, a teacher at the time).
1960
School painted interior and exterior completed at a cost of $2300 after a long wait.
1961
Seats built around oval.
1962
School site fenced.
1963
Scoreboard put up on the oval.
Two additional classrooms built on the south side of grounds.
School song written by classroom teacher Kath Harrington.
1964
Electric lighting installed in whole school.
Two more L.T.C. classrooms added to the south side of the main building.
1965
One portable delivered.
1966
Three more portables delivered to cater for overcrowding.
1967
Old residence removed from north-east corner of the school grounds.
Ceiling fans installed throughout the school. Recorder band formed.
Four portable classrooms removed. No longer required due to opening of Wilmot Rd school.
1970
New school library opened.
1974
Three log forts built by the committee.
1975
Gas heaters installed — a change to natural gas.
1976
Re-bound wall completed.
1978
New administration and art room built.
1984
Quadrangle updated with gardens by Dhurringile Prisoners.
The original main entrance to Bristol building and old staff room made into a computer room.
1997
Library portable established onsite.
1998
New performing arts hall built.
2001
Kitchen garden established by Margaret Stothart.
2002
Two more portables delivered.
2012
Original Bristol Building demolished, replaced by our new B.E.R. building.
2019
Rebound wall removed.
2020
Staffroom renovated/office extensions.
2023
Orchard established on east side of school.
Infant rooms, verandahs, library deck are fully renovated.
Two digital signs installed.
Woodwork shed built.
Security fence installed.
Several murals adorn our buildings, painted by local artist Tank.
School celebrates its 70th birthday.
