The Max Kirwan Ski Park is gearing up to host some of the world’s most elite adaptive water skiers later this month, as Mulwala welcomes the IWWF World Disabled Water Ski Championships from 27 to 30 November 2025.

Athletes from around the globe will take to the water across multiple disciplines in what promises to be four thrilling days of competition.
Spectators can expect to witness world-class performances in slalom, trick, and jump events, as competitors showcase both extraordinary skill and sheer determination in their quest for the title of World Champion.
Among the stars to watch is Australian favourite and multiple world champion Jason Sleep, who will be returning to the water with hopes of reclaiming his crown.
The World Disabled Water Ski Championships were last held in Mulwala back in 1995.
This is the second time the World Disabled Water Ski Championships have been held in Mulwala, when in 1995 Australia finished third behind Great Britain and the USA.
Event Director Noel Dix said the event has attracted competitors from six different countries—the USA, Canada, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands and Australia.
“Basically, from a spectator viewpoint, they're going to see the world's best disabled water skiers in action,” Mr Dix said.
“A large component of that will be wheelchair athletes sitting in specially made skis.
“We will have a fair number of vision-impaired skiers, skiing through a virtual slalom course.
“You're going to see leg amputees; you're going to have arm amputees and a mixture of athletes with injuries to hands and arms.”
A celebration of sport and spirit
The event, proudly hosted by the Mulwala Water Ski Club, marks a major highlight on the international adaptive sports calendar.
The IWWF’s decision to stage the championships at Max Kirwan Ski Park—just five minutes from town—has been met with excitement from the local community.
“It’s an honour to have these incredible athletes competing on our waters,” Mulwala Water Ski Club Ski Co-ordinator Pete O’Neill said.
“We'd love the community to come out and be a part of this event because it's water skiing like you haven't seen before, and every person skiing has an amazing story behind.
“This event showcases not only world-class sport, but also the resilience and talent of adaptive athletes.”
Spectators will have the chance to meet competitors, hear their inspiring stories, and experience the electric atmosphere up close.
