The penultimate round of the Suncorp Super Netball season came to an end on Sunday, but a tough six-goal loss to Queensland Firebirds handed Melbourne its second defeat of the season.
Queensland suffered a 28-goal loss to Melbourne back in round two, and showed off its improvement since then by powering ahead by 11 goals in the second quarter in Cairns.
The Vixens briefly hit the front in the second half, but the Firebirds finished off their work to upset the minor premiers.
In her third appearance - and second in as many weeks - Seymour's Elle McDonald came on as wing attack in the second term and finished the game with nine goal assists and 14 feeds.
The Vixens will play the Sunshine Coast Lightning on Sunday in the final home-and-away round of the season, with the first centre pass at 1 pm.
