Weekday pennant results — Division 3

Seymour VRI hosted Avenel and came away with a two-point victory.

Skipper Joe Purcell, Helen Flint, Paul Rolfe and Kevin Cain lost 20-25, and skipper Mick Szczykski, Wayne Noonan, George Furletti and Peter Delzotto lost 19-26.

But skipper Moreno Puppa, Peter Stevens, Bill Dawes and Jane Wilson had a strong win, 31-17.

The win puts VRI third on the GVBL ladder.

In the next game, VRI travels to Alexandra.

Weekend pennant results

Division 3 travelled to Rushworth, which was second on the league ladder.

VRI had a strong win, 116-73.

Skipper Brendan Challis, Jhett Wyatt, Paul Rolfe and Jane Wilson won 26-16.

Skipper Mick Szczykski, Moreno Puppa, Bill Dawe and Peter Delzotto won 32-13.

Skipper Phil Challis, Wayne Noonan, Mark Brett and Joy Cashill won 35-11. “Phil Challis on Saturday did walk on water,” VRI team captain Mick Szczykski said.

Skipper Joe Purcell, Peter Stevens, Helen Flint and Kevin Cain lost 23-33.

The result puts Seymour VRI two games clear on top of the GVBL ladder.

Next up, Seymour VRI hosts Mooroopna.

Division 5

The Division 5 team moved into third position on the ladder with a terrific win at home against Kyabram.

Skipper Stuart Crockett’s team led all game, eventually winning 24-19.

Skipper Geoff Dixon’s crew shot away in the end to win 20-15.

Skipper Ian Cashill had the closest final tally, recording an 18-16 win after the game had ebbed and flowed.

A great team effort.

The next game, against East Shepparton, will be crucial to secure a place in the finals.

Men’s pairs championship

Seymour VRI men’s pairs championship was played on Sunday, January 21.

The winning pair of Mick Szczykski and Jhett Wyatt defeated Phil Challis and Kevin Cain 17-8.
